Jamaica made a losing start to their campaign in this year's regional Super50 competition after going down to the Barbados Pride by 24 runs under the Duckworth/ Lewis/Stern Method at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on Wednesday. Rain interruptions saw the Jamaica Scorpions being set a revised target of 224 in 37 overs, as they sought to win their first game in the competition in two years. However, the chase began in disasterous fashion, with the John Campbell-led unit slipping to 58-4 in the 10th over when Carlos Brown went for 8, adding to Odain McCatty 1, Campbell 26 and Kirk McKenzie 12.
The experienced Jermaine Blackwood and Brad Barnes staged a middle order recovery, with the two adding 58 for the 5th wicket before Barnes made his exit for 22. Another capitulation followed with the Jamaicans losing three wickets for 42 runs, which left them reeling at 158-8, with Blackwood who went for 40, being the top scorer up to that stage. Odean Smith orchestrated some late order heroics and threatened to win the game for the Scorpions before he was the last man out for an enterprising top score of 45 off 27 balls, including 5 sixes and 2 fours, as the team folded for 199 in 35 overs.
