The 43-year-old Blade Runner 2049 star was originally cast as the grieving father of a young girl who had been murdered, but he was later fired before filming commenced by director Peter Jackson. During her appearance Monday on the Happy Sad Confused podcast , Ronan — who recently admitted that she failed a Harry Potter audition — said it was 'sad' that Gosling was fired from the film, which received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and performed poorly at the box office. After his firing, Mark Wahlberg , who was a decade older than him and already had the experience of being a parent, replaced him in the lead role.

Although he had initially denied that he was fired, and instead claimed he departed the production of his own volition due to 'creative differences,' Gosling later revealed in a 2010 Hollywood Reporter roundtable that Jackson had fired him on what was supposed to be his first day of shooting due to his surprise 60-pound weight gain.
