Prayagraj: The sale of tricolour flags and other merchandise , including badges, stickers, ribbons, caps, hand bands, key rings, t-shirts, and decorative has increased ahead of Independence Day. Traders attributed the spike in sale of national flags in the wake of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Traders claimed that this year, the business will cross over Rs 5 crore.

“Earlier, the sale of tricolour flags and other items was confined to Independence Day , Republic Day, and Gandhi Jayanti. But in recent years, especially during the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, we noticed a massive demand for tricolour flags,” said Mohd Qadir, a wholesale dealer and stockist in the old city area. The sale also picks up whenever there has been a cricket match between India and other countries.

While UP has set a target of unfurling over 4 crore flags across the state to mark the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ programme, over 2 lakh tricolours will be unfurled in city alone.
