Prayagraj : A sewage treatment plant (STP) with a capacity of 20 lakh litres of water has been made functional in Sadar Bazar of New Cantonment. Principal director, directorate of defence estates (central), Bhavna Singh , inaugurated the plant early this week. She also inaugurated the sewage pumping station in RA Bazaar.

The purification of water from the plants of Sadar Bazar and RA Bazaar started at 1.10pm. The plan to build a STP in New Cantonment was prepared in 2008 by Bhavna Singh, the then chief executive officer of Cantonment Board Allahabad.

Sixteen years after the plan was made, she inaugurated the plant as the principal director of directorate of defence estates. In a meeting with the officials, Singh said a dream has come true after 16 years. She praised the chief executive officer of Cantonment Board, Mohammad Sameer Islam, for starting the plant.

She appealed to the chairman and chief executive officer of the board to use the water purified in the plant for other uses..
