College chiefs say they will not renew its membership with the controversial charity when it expires in December. The Telegraph reported that internal disagreements over the college’s stance on transgender issues are behind the separation, with leaders acknowledging the split in opinions in a highly sensitive area. Writing to members, Sonia Walter, the college chief executive, and Dr Lade Smith, the president, said: ‘Stonewall helped us to become a more inclusive organisation. However, we are acutely aware that there is a risk in being affiliated with an organisation that may speak on matters relating to the professional practice of our members, but over which the college has no direct control.
