Rory Cowan has taken to social media to share his pride as his brother Gerry played banjo for Chris Martin on a Dun Laoghaire pier on Wednesday. Chris’ group Coldplay will play the first of four Croke Park gigs on Thursday night, August 29, before returning to the home of GAA on Friday, Sunday and Monday. With Coldplay fever taking over the country ahead of the sold-out gigs, Irish fans are looking forward to seeing the band for the first time since the summer of 2017.

Soaking up the best sights Dublin has to offer, Chris was seen talking to a local Dun Laoghaire busker named Gerry, who showed off his playing skills. Sharing a video on Facebook of their encounter, Chris said: ‘So happy to be in Dublin. Pleasure to meet you, Gerry.

’ In a shocking turn of events, it turns out that Gerry is the brother of none other than former Mrs Brown’s Boys star and Fair City actor Rory Cowan. A post shared by Coldplay (@coldplay) ‘That’s my younger brother, Gerry. He’s a great banjo and mandolin player.

And look at him there playing his banjo for Chris Martin,’ he wrote on Facebook. The comments section of the post saw Dancing with the Stars 2024 contestant Rory’s friends and fans congratulating Gerry on getting to perform with one of the world’s biggest musicians. One person said: ‘Aw no way.

...

so did Chris know who Gerry was? Wouldn’t it be fab if he brought him on stage for a song.’ Another added: ‘Wow, so talent runs in the family..

.I like the banjo and Chris.
