The film includes a dramatization of their rocky romance. The couple's on-and-off relationship spanned from 1997 to 1999, and even Robbie's wife, Ayda Field , has openly called him a "crappy boyfriend" during that time. Nicole was reportedly moved to tears by the movie when she first watched it.

The unique musical biopic tells the story of Robbie's rise to fame, his fall, and his eventual comeback, with an unexpected twist: Robbie is depicted by a CGI chimpanzee. Robbie shared why the choice resonated with him: "I love eccentricity and I love unusual and I love surreal, and it made complete sense to me as soon as director Michael Gracey pitched it to me." The film doesn't shy away from the more sensitive aspects of his life , such as when Nicole became pregnant and chose to have an abortion — a decision that deeply affected both of them.

Nicole, in her 2002 autobiography, expressed her profound regret, writing, "I couldn't believe what I had done. I wanted to kill myself. Afterwards, everyone pretended it hadn't happened," reports the Mirror .

Robbie has also shared how the experience "tore him apart." Supporting Nicole at the European premiere of Better Man at London's Odeon Luxe Leicester Square was TV pr.
