A deliciously cooked Red Emperor fish with fresh lemon slices, that is skillfully decorated with flowers along with traditional Trobriand dancers in their red grass skirts await you when you arrive at Ricshirl Resort for a peaceful getaway. This resort in Milne Bay Province is owned by Richard Kelola who is from the Trobriand Islands, and he opened it in January 2020. The name of the resort “Ricshirl” is from the owners name and his wife.

Kelola had opened the resort because of his vision to contribute to the economic development of Papua New Guinea which was a response to one of Prime Minister James Marapes speech in 2020. The Prime Minister had encouraged public servants to work hard or go into any entrepreneurial venture. Kelola had seen this opportunity to showcase the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Trobriand Island.

The resort is on a remote island with white sandy beach and crystal waters with cool fresh breeze for any visitor to enjoy. Kelola began with two bungalows built from local bush materials. Timber cut from trees and roof made from sago leaves.

The bungalows have a toilet and bathroom rooms in built,a tv and small fridge. Only one room in a bungalow which contains a single and queen size bed. Their price K25 to K300 per head and they do provide meals.

Local tourists can come to the resort through Alotau then by Captain Moresby which is a boat that travels to Kaibola beach. For international tourists, you can come by PNO cruise ship to Ricshirl .
