WATERBURY – We sadly announce that Richard R. Houseknecht, age 70, has passed away peacefully with family by his side, at Waterbury Center on July 29, 2024. Richard was the son of the late Robert A.

and Rose May (Weiss) Houseknecht. He was an athlete in the Wolcott Special Games and in 2003 he carried the torch. He loved fishing, bowling and collecting keys.

He also enjoyed going out to eat at restaurants with family members. He was a great person with a beautiful smile and was loved by all. He cruised the hallways cheering people up with his friendly and happy nature, and giving a helping hand to help anyone in need.

He held the “master keys” to our hearts and love that opens the gates of happiness. He was truly our gatekeeper. Richard leaves his two sisters, Clara Houseknecht and Diana Carneiro; three brothers, Roger, Douglas and David Houseknecht; three nieces, 12 nephews; and several cousins.

Richard’s family wants to thank the nurses at the Waterbury Center and Todd Road Group Home for their compassionate care shown to him. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. Woodtick Memorial is honored to serve Richard’s family at this time.
