Richard Madeley has insisted that he may have to leave Good Morning Britain - if he wants to publish another book. Opening up about his career as an author so far, the broadcaster admitted he fell years behind deadline with his latest book, as it was "very difficult" to find time to write it, while also a presenter on the show. Believing that juggling the morning show and writing would be easy, Richard, 68, was soon reminded about just how much of an effect morning television can have on your life.

The ex This Morning host explained: "I've just published my fourth novel and, actually, I found it very difficult to complete that one. "[With] all the others, I delivered on deadline to my publicist, but the last one I was several years behind deadline, and that's because of Good Morning Britain. "All of the others I had written before I had really started filling in for Piers Morgan, before he left on Good Morning Britain.

" Richard believed that when he accepted the commission for his latest novel, it would be "simple" to juggle the show with writing, but was in fact left with "not much intellectual energy" afterwards. "You can wash the car and go shopping, but to sit down and actually think creatively about the next chapter of the book, I found very difficult, I was mentally just too tired," he added. Speaking on The Dr Hilary show podcast, the presenter went on to say that should he now want to write another book, it will need to be once he's finished with the show and has more.
