Richard Dawson has shared his new song ‘Boxing Day Sales’. The season is upon us – across the land, trees are being hoisted in living rooms, tinsel is being retrieved from the cupboard, the mince pies are being unlocked. Yep, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – and what better way to celebrate than with something new from Richard Dawson? The feted songwriter’s new album ‘End Of The Middle’ is out on February 14th, and it contains a brand new festive bauble.

‘Boxing Day Sales’ aims to tap into the throwaway aspects of the season, revelling in shiny surface-level artifice to construct an ode to festive tat. “I wanted to make a pure pop song,” says Rich. “Almost like a total throwaway song – like a Christmas gift: A pair of novelty socks, some Lynx Africa, or a daft plastic puzzle you get on Christmas morning and then chuck in a drawer for the next 10 years.

I wanted it to be the most throwaway and lightweight triviality of a thing.” A jaunty folk-pop number, ‘Boxing Day Sales’ is split apart by a bolt of jagged clarinet from Faye MacCalman – whose instrument signifies thunder across the alum as a whole.
