Residents have expressed their shock after a shooting outside a Bury town centre bar last night, Wednesday. A section of Silver Street has been cordoned off this morning, Thursday after the shooting, which happened at 11.43pm.

Armed police, alongside the ambulance service, attended and found a 39-year-old man had been shot in his wrist. Paramedics treated the victim and took him to hospital, where he is in a stable condition. Read more: Man shot outside bar on Silver Street Within an hour of the police responce, officers arrested a 19-year-old man on Larch Street on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in custody for questioning.

The cordon is in place between the junction of Market Street and where Society bar is, just further up from Broad Street. Two police cars , one police van and around four officers are at the scene currently. The bars within the cordon are Stanleys and House of Bridget, however it has not been specified which bar the incident took place outside of.

One woman in the area this morning, Thursday, said: “There’s always trouble down Silver Street, but it is worrying that it’s a shooting. “Other incidents have been fights and stabbings. I’d be worried about going out down there.
