Residents of a quiet street heard an 'explosion' as a van they had 'never seen before' burnt out. The incident took place on Knutshaw Crescent in Hunger Hill at 6pm yesterday, Wednesday. The van blaze is suspected to have been a "deliberate ignition" .

A spokesperson for Bolton Central Fire Station said: "Crews were called to Knutshaw Crescent at 6.05pm yesterday to a fire involving a van. "It was extinguished with a hose reel and one firefighter in breathing apparatus.

"Greater Manchester Police were informed, as a suspected deliberate ignition. "We were on scene until around 6.50pm, spending around 45 minutes at the scene.

Crews stayed on scene whilst waiting for the police." One said: "The van showed up yesterday evening at around 6pm, we were just sat in the homes " target="_blank">house when we heard a great big bang.

"We saw the van was on fire, came to the door and rang the fire brigade. "It is very unusual. Initially we were a bit concerned, as there could have been someone in the vehicle, and it was quite close to houses and telephone wires.
