Pune: Residents of the Taljai and Dhankawadi areas have claimed that they received contaminated water after the two-day — Thursday and Friday — supply closure . The residents have approached local political leaders regarding the poor water quality and low-pressure supply. Nitin Kadam, a local leader and head of Rashtravadi Urban Cell, said the civic administration had announced water closure on Thursday, but the supply resumed only on Friday evening.

“After the supply was restored late on Friday, many residents complained that the quality was not good. The issue was raised with authorities immediately,” he said. “We appealed to the citizens not to panic,” he said.

Officials from Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) water supply department said following the complaints, the supply lines were cleaned on Friday night, and washing continued even on Saturday. “Basic checks were conducted on the water. It was found fit for consumption.

The water samples will be sent to the laboratory for further testing,” a civic official said. Kadam said the demands have been put forth before the PMC's water supply department to replace the old lines and finish the ongoing pipeline works in the area. Residents alleged, PMC laid pipelines in some areas, however, these have not been joined to the main distribution lines.

Meanwhile, residents of Taljai and adjacent areas said the water supply has always been erratic. “Many uphill areas do not receive water supply at adequate pressur.
