Pune: A 23-year-old youth admitted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital with complaint of dizziness landed in ICU after his medical report got swapped with that of a man suffering from renal complications . The resident medical officer of the hospital, Usha Tapase, has formed a committee to probe how the reports of the two patients got interchanged. She admitted the error, and said the patient didn’t receive any wrong treatment as some hospital staffers spotted the mix-up on time.

“Our staffers were prompt to realise the error. The staffer responsible for the mix-up was suspended. Treatment of the man hospitalised with renal complications was not affected,” she said.

The youth was admitted to the hospital on Aug 8 with complaints of dizziness. “Around 11pm, we received a call from a hospital staffer who said my brother’s medical reports showed that his kidneys were severely damaged and his condition was not good. We were shocked to hear this as we had seen him doing well in the hospital the same evening,” Aniket Waydande, the patient’s brother, said on Tuesday.
