Pune: Reconstruction of Shivajinagar bus terminus will take at least three more years, a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation ( MSRTC ) official said. The terminus was shifted from Shivajinagar to Wakdewadi to assist Metro work. While Metro services have been operational at Shivajinagar over the last six months, shifting of bus operations to its original location has been delayed as the proposal to reconstruct the bus terminus is still at the discussion stage.
Regular commuters said that they face problems in reaching Wakdewadi terminus as it is not easily accessible. They also pointed to traffic chaos on the main road owing to the terminus. The MSRTC terminus operates more than 800 buses daily to various cities across the state.
Some of the prominent destinations to which it operates are Nashik, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nanded, and parts of North Maharashtra. Local MLA Siddharth Shirole, who has been following up on the issue with the state govt, said the proposal had moved ahead and was expected to gain momentum. “Recently, MSRTC handed over the plan for the terminus to Maha Metro.
A memorandum is expected to be signed in the next couple of weeks between MSRTC and Maha Metro, after which the actual work will begin,” Shirole said. Shirole held a meeting with Maha Metro officials on Monday to discuss further steps. He claimed that the proposal did not move ahead during the tenure of the MVA govt.
