Login When Rio Tinto shut down its famed Argyle mine in 2020, the final tender of the rare pink diamonds collected at the West Australian site was one of the most eagerly anticipated events in local and global jewellery auction history. The company never released the sale value of its diamonds but the final auction, dubbed “Once in a Blue Moon” to represent its rarity, was expected to fetch prices that showed a 500 per cent increase in the value of pink diamonds since the early 1990s.
