Monday, September 9, 2024 Rakuten Travel aims to attract global travelers to Japan’s hidden gems through its multilingual platform, offering comprehensive guides to lesser-known destinations. Rakuten Travel, a leading Japanese online travel agency (OTA), is on a mission to attract international travelers to Japan’s lesser-known regions through its multilingual platform. With a focus on both popular and off-the-beaten-path locations, the OTA envisions its website as a complete travel resource.

This comes as Japan’s government plans to capitalize on the rising interest in secondary destinations among repeat visitors. Jeremy Bek, Rakuten Travel’s global head, highlighted, “There are still many undiscovered gems, and I believe travelers will continue returning to explore Japan on a deeper level.” Bek noted that around 30 percent of the agency’s international bookings involve trips to secondary areas, including nature-focused activities like hiking and mountain climbing.

A robust travel guide for exploring Japan Currently, the Rakuten Travel website supports nine languages, including Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. The platform provides an array of travel resources, such as car rental guidance and a customer support hotline for resolving travel issues. It also showcases various authentic accommodation options, from traditional ryokan inns and architecturally rich machiya houses to cozy, family-run minshuku guesthouses.
