Lucknow: The state govt has made arrangements for free travel for women and girls in UPSRTC buses on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan . To meet the passenger rush, at least 2,000 additional buses will be deployed on Monday, following the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath . The free service will be available from Aug 18 midnight to Aug 19 midnight.

Bus services will be adjusted based on passenger demand. Drivers and conductors have been instructed to wear uniform and be courteous to passengers. The govt has also introduced incentives for drivers and conductors.

A bonus of Rs 3,000 will be provided to them for Raksha Bandhan and the upcoming police recruitment examination to ensure full attendance and smooth operations. Workshop and technical staff will also receive incentives up to Rs 1,200. Officials said that comprehensive safety measures had been put in place, including accident-free operation guidelines, route inspections, breathalyser tests for drivers and conductors, and cleanliness at bus stands and in buses.

Contracted buses will also be in service, with staff scheduled accordingly. Besides UPSRTC buses, the CM has instructed for extension of free travel for women in city buses in 15 major cities, including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Meerut, Agra, Mathura-Vrindavan, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Moradabad, Aligarh, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Ayodhya, and Jhansi, in view of Raksha Bandhan.
