Saturday, July 20, 2024 Kerala is currently grappling with severe weather conditions, including robust rain and wind, prompting the closure of numerous popular tourist destinations to guarantee public safety. Various regions of Kerala are also under a travel restriction. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for substantial rainfall in eight districts for Wednesday.
The affected districts include Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Additionally, a yellow alert signifying heavy rain ranging from 6 cm to 11 cm is in place for the state’s six other districts. The Central Water Commission has alerted about rising water levels in rivers such as Achankovil in Pathanamthitta and Thodupuzha in Idukki, advising nearby residents to exercise caution.
Below are key restrictions and closures travelers should note: 1) The road from Neriamangalam to Munnar is shut, with the Gap Road also closed due to mudslides and heavy rainfall. 2) Jeep safaris at Kolukkumalai in Idukki have been suspended. 3) The Ponmudi hill station is closed until further notice.
4) In Kottayam, access to attractions like Illikkal Kallu, Ilaveezhapoonchira, and Marmala waterfalls is barred indefinitely. Night travel on the Erattupetta – Wagamon road is prohibited. 5) All DTPC centres in Kozhikode have travel restrictions.
6) Palakkad has bans on visiting all waterfalls, with additional prohibitions at Parambikulam, Attapadi, and Nelliyam.
