Set in the 1980s, the delightfully funny and very Australian series follows Robyn, a 17-year-old Aboriginal girl who escapes from juvenile detention just shy of her release date to help her ailing pop with one last wish.
He wants her to find the father she was told was dead, and give him back a trophy that he won horse-riding in Coober Pedy all those years ago. On her way to completing this task, she unwittingly teams up with Gidge, a fellow teen looking to get away from his morally corrupt travelling preacher father Robert, and a road trip through the desert begins. Robyn and Gidge are played by stars Sherry-Lee Watson and Will McDonald, and both are brilliant.

To go from a secondary character to the lead of an eight-part series in only your second TV role (at least according to her IMDb profile) is great work. And she is fantastic as Robyn, creating a character fill of spunk, anger, tenacity and occasionally some infectious joy.
That last emotion is almost solely due to Gidge, her accidental companion. The pair are incredibly fun to watch at work, and McDonald is just as revelatory in this role that is so different from his best-known gig as Cash in . Filling o.
