EXPECT tough competition from the nine queens vying for the Miss Vodafone Friendly North title this year. The festival, renowned for its celebration of beauty and community spirit, has chosen “Sustainable agriculture: Green economy” as the central theme for this year’s event. The week-long festival will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa from August 31 to September 7, where contestants will advocate for various aspects of sustainable agriculture.

Festival president Zihan Ibrahim said sustainable agriculture was not just a trend, but a necessary shift towards ensuring the environment remained healthy and productive. “By focusing on this theme, we aim to raise awareness and encourage positive action towards a greener future.” Ms Ibrahim said funds raised from it would go towards setting up a greenhouse for the Labasa Hospital.

“This will assist Labasa Hospital to be self-sufficient in providing fresh vegetables to their patients.” She said there were also plans to build a washroom facility on ground two of the park. “Plenty of events are held on ground two, but there’s no proper washroom facility.

” Apart from the queen category, there were also three men vying for the king’s category..
