Queen Letizia, the wife of Felipe VI, King of Spain, was a journalist before marrying into the Spanish royal family. Born Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano in 1972, she grew up in the Spanish city of Oviedo. She came from a middle-class family, with her father, Jesús José Ortiz Álvarez, a journalist, and her mother, María de la Paloma Rocasolano Rodríguez, a nurse.
Letizia worked for Bloomberg and CNN as a journalist before her marriage. Before marrying the King of Spain, Letizia was married to writer Alonso Guerrero Pérez in 1998. The couple eventually divorced after a year.
She met Prince Felipe, the son of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain, in 2002 at a mutual friend’s party, and they married in 2004.
