NEW DELHI: Government on Tuesday announced PM Modi's three-day visit to the US, beginning with his participation in the 4th Quad Summit that US President Joe Biden will host in Delaware on Sept 21. He will also address the UNGA Summit of the Future on Sept 23 in New York, and have several bilateral meetings on the sidelines, before returning to India. While in New York, Modi will address a gathering of the Indian community on Sept 22 and interact with CEOs of leading US-based companies to foster greater collaborations between the two countries in the "cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology".
Modi is also expected to interact with thought leaders and other stakeholders active in the India-US bilateral landscape, said the govt in a statement. While India was keen to host the Quad Summit on the margins of the UNGA in New York, the US proposed it be held in Delaware's Wilmington, the hometown of Biden. Following the request, India agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.
This also paves the way for an early visit by the next US President to India. At the summit in Wilmington, the leaders will review the progress achieved by the Quad bloc over the last one year and set the agenda for the year ahead to assist the countries of the Indo-Pacific region in meeting their development goals and aspirations, according to the Indian announcement. The last Quad Summit took place in Hiroshima in May 2023, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit .
