A 16-year-old Queensland boy has been charged with manslaughter after a fatal collision involving a stolen car killed an innocent driver north of Brisbane. Emergency services received multiple calls to Dohles Rocks Road in Murrumba Downs after reports of a two-vehicle crash on Thursday about 9:45am. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene and were told an Audi had allegedly run a red traffic light before colliding with a Toyota Corolla making a right turn.
The Audi continued driving and smashed into an unmarked police car, injuring two detectives. They were taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released. Paramedics provided first aid to a 69-year-old woman who was trapped behind the wheel of the Corolla.
However, she could not be saved and died at the scene. A 16-year-old boy who was the alleged driver of the Audi was arrested. Police will allege the teenager had 15 minutes earlier stolen the luxury car from a home in Griffin on Dohles Rocks Road while armed with a gun.
Officers located the weapon and have seized it for further investigation. The boy has since been charged with one count each of manslaughter, robbery armed and unlawful use of motor vehicle, and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm. He will appear at Brisbane Childrens Court on Friday.
“We’ll be looking at all the aspects leading up to this morning, as well as determining whether there were any other persons involved,” Chief Superintendent Adam Guild said. Police say the boy is know.
