Sony’s PlayStation Pro hits stores at the end of this week and Sony has been touting various features of the new console from its AI upscaling tech PSSR, to enhanced ray tracing and the like. One feature however they haven’t discussed has been revealed now that tech outlet writers have begun to get their hands on review units of the console. That feature? Upscaling of old games.
Within the console’s screen settings menu is the new option to ‘Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games’ that can be toggled on or off. The setting advises people to turn it off if they experience ‘unexpected behavior during gameplay’. Video captures have started going online testing the option with “Bloodborne” being tested via and showing a slightly sharper image with the enhancement engaged.
Additionally, those who’ve obtained the console have found a few other things listed in the console’s manual. First up there’s an additional 2Gb of DDR5 RAM for the OS & non-game apps, meaning games can use the full 16Gb of GDDR6 RAM as opposed to having to share it like on the base PS5. Lots of benchmark testing of PSSR on outlets like Digital Foundry have indicated that the AI upscaling tech is far superior at this time to AMD’s currently available FSR, but not quite up to the quality level of NVIDIA’s DLSS.
Also confirmed via is that PS5 Slim cover plates will NOT fit the Pro aside from the lower disc drive plate. Different colored PS5 Pro plates have yet to be announced but are expec.
