Guwahati: Assam tourism minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Saturday made an appeal to all to refrain from activities that could hinder the state’s growth and hamper the tourism industry. Baruah issued the statement in the wake of the recovery of explosives on August 15 and 16 from various locations across the state. The minister expressed concern that such incidents could severely impact the booming tourism sector of the state, which has been gaining momentum in recent years.
He emphasised the importance of a peaceful environment for the growth of tourism, which is a significant contributor to the state’s economy. Expressing doubts over United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent’s (Ulfa-I) claim to have planted explosives in 24 locations across the state, the minister without mentioning the organisation’s name , said, “Incidents like this one will give a wrong impression to tourists and investors and make them detest visiting or investing in the state. This will harm the state’s economy.
To promote tourism in the state, it is very important to establish peace . To give further impetus to this tourism sector, strenuous efforts have to be made to create a positive environment.” Baruah also emphasised that such incidents can in no way deter the govt.
