T'puram: The police team who had left for Visakhapatnam on Thursday morning to bring back the 13-year-old Assamese girl – who was found nearly 37 hours after she left home after being scolded by her mother – is expected to reach here on Sunday night. Child Welfare Committee officials in Visakhapatnam handed over the child to the probe team on Saturday. The officers, comprising a woman sub-inspector and three others, along with the teen left from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada by train at noon.

From there, they boarded Kerala Express, and the train is expected to arrive at the state capital at 10pm on Sunday. According to police, the child will be handed over to CWC officials upon reaching the station. On Monday, she will be produced before a magistrate.

Based on the girl's statement, the magistrate will issue directives to police on further probe. The teen had told CWC officials in Visakhapatnam that she was beaten up by her mother for quarrelling with her younger brother. Police may charge the girl's parents — Anwar and Farveen Beegum of Manakkattuvilakom in Vadakkumbhagam — under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act if the girl sticks to her statement before the magistrate.

Thasmith Thamsum left home on Tuesday morning. She travelled by train to Kanyakumari and then to Chennai. She was found on a Guwahati-bound train in Visakhapatnam.
