Prime Minister James Marape welcomed the newly elected President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto into the country this morning. Prime Minister Marape at a press conference at Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby highlighted that there has been three nation-to-nation meetings in focus on improving relationships from people-to-people and business-to-business perspectives. The dialogue between the Republic of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea has been positive and will continue.

Mr Marape emphasized that the government-to-government relationship between the two countries has been strong since 1975 when PNG gained independence. The ongoing dialogue and exchanges between the two countries are crucial for maintaining and improving relations. “Both countries have a long history of cooperation and dialogue, which has contributed to a strong government-to-government relationship,” says Marape.

The emphasis on people-to-people and business-to-business interactions highlights a commitment to fostering deeper connections beyond just diplomatic ties. He highlighted that Indonesia is the 14th largest economy in the world. The focus is on increasing people-to-people interactions and business exchanges.

It is clear that both parties value the relationship and are looking to strengthen it further. President Subianto expressed gratitude to PM Marape and the leaders of the country for the warm welcome. He acknowledges that he is not yet officially installed as the president of Indonesi.
