SHREVEPORT, La. - The 118th annual State Fair of Louisiana is set to open in just over a week. The 2-week-long extravaganza packs a lot of punch into its fairgrounds off Hudson Street in Shreveport, with entertainment ranging from rodeo events to concerts, acrobats to oodles of animals on display.

Carnival from Talley Amusements If you thought this year's Louisiana State Fair was going to be the same old dog and pony show, think again. The carnival alone is going to take your breath away, fly you around and hang you upside down just for fun, according to state fair Marketing Manager Russell Adams. “They’re finishing up the Texas State Fair in Dallas and they’ll be bringing rides from the Texas State Fair to our fair,” Adams said of Talley Amusements, the new vendor.

He continued, “So the carnival, it’s beautiful, and the carnival is landscaped. They do all kinds of things that we not had before.” He said to expect newer and more exciting rides in the Midway, with rides that will give you thrills and chills.

While crews remain on a tight timeline assembling the rides still, organizers say it's all coming together on schedule. Adams said, “It’s very complex, it's very big. There's a lot of separate events within the fair.

.. We’ve got deadlines coming and we're going to meet those deadlines.

” Adams says this final home stretch means little sleep for him and his staff. The rodeo arena will get its makeover, dirt replacing the Mudbugs' ice surface, ready for .
