A police officer accused of fatally shooting a pregnant mum has been charged with her murder. Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb is accused of killing Ta’Kiya Young, 21, in Ohio last August. Grubb and another police officer had accused Ms Young of shoplifting moments before the tragedy.

Mum-of-two Ms Young was six months pregnant with her third child at the time of the shooting. Grubb was charged with murder , involuntary manslaughter and assault on Tuesday and he is due to appear in court on Wednesday. The mum refused to get out of the vehicle and denied stealing anything. Standing in front of the vehicle in an attempt to stop her from driving away, Grubb can be seen holding his gun and pointing it at Ms Young through the front windshield. As Ms Young edges forward, a single shot is fired which proves to be fatal.

The two officers pulled Ms Young out of the vehicle in an attempt to try and save her life but they were unsuccessful. Ms Young's grandmother, Nadine Young, said on Tuesday after Grubb was charged: "He took a lot from us. It's not fair.
