Chris Pratt was reportedly up for the abandoned TV series remake of the iconic Kevin Costner-led 1989 film “Field of Dreams” which scored three Oscar nominations including Best Picture. That film, which was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, follows a struggling Iowa farmer who builds a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield after being prompted by a mysterious, otherworldly voice. The field eventually draws in ghosts of legendary baseball players.

In a new article about showrunner deals at , they go into the record of “The Good Place,” “Hacks” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” producer Mike Schur. Schur was attached to the TV series adaptation which was announced with a straight-to-series order back in 2021 for the Peacock streaming service, before news came in July 2022 that it was cancelled just a month out from production. Multiple scripts were done and casting was underway when the project was scrapped.

The new report indicates Chris Pratt had agreed to star in the series, but then abruptly dropped out. Schur then found a replacement in newcomer Bill Heck (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” “The Old Man”) – however Peacock executives weren’t happy with the choice – especially for a show with a $15 million-per-episode price. Additionally, Schur wanted to film at Fenway Park in Boston (he’s a noted Red Sox fan), which would’ve increased the costs even more.

So, the project was dit.
