Prayagraj: In an attempt to make Maha Kumbh clean, green, and eco-friendly , people from the Musahar and Kumhar ( potters ) communities will be assembling at the campus of Om Namay Shivya, an organisation holding community feasts at Kumbh, Ardh Kumbh, and Magh Melas for the past 40 years. They will be chalking out plans to manufacture large-scale ‘ dona pattal ’ and ‘ kulhad ’ during the world’s religious congregation on the banks of the Ganga. The authorities of Om Namay Shivya have taken up the crusade for promoting an eco-friendly event on the initiative of Kumbh Mela adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand to make the 2025 Kumbh plastic-free.

A large number of Musahar and Kumhar people from the Meja area of Prayagraj and adjoining districts are scheduled to assemble at the ashram of Shri Gurudev of Om Namah Shivay. These people will supply sufficient ‘kulhads’, ‘donas’, and plates to the institutions for drinking water during the Maha Kumbh. With mela authorities making sincere efforts to make the Kumbh Mela plastic-free, officials have held meetings with the heads of religious, social, and spiritual organisations to promote ‘kulhad’ and ‘dona pattal’ for distributing prasad and beverages.

Pujya Gurudev, head of Om Namah Shivay, says, “Volunteers of the organisation usually serve food to the devotees and pilgrims in steel plates, but on the initiative of Mela adhikari, food will be served on dona pattal during Kumbh.” He, however, said hundreds of people .
