com STE. GENEVIEVE – Ava Robart promised a community of concerned supporters earlier this month that her comeback from an injured ankle would overshadow the temporary setback. The all-state outside hitter and her Potosi teammates delivered on that word in sparkling fashion with a simply relentless performance on Tuesday night.

The Lady Trojans avenged two previous losses to Ste. Genevieve, and captured the Class 3, District 2 title – their first in at least a quarter century – with an emphatic road sweep. Ava Robart compiled 19 kills with six digs, and sophomore sister Eden Robart added 13 kills, eight digs and two blocks during the 25-20, 25-18, 25-18 victory.

Sophomore libero Macyn McCarthy did stellar work along the back row with 23 digs, handling nearly everything the skilled Ste. Genevieve attackers and servers sent in her direction. Carsyn Yount totaled 35 assists, and Potosi (23-9-1) advanced to host Notre Dame on Thursday after securing an elusive berth in the state sectional round.

Ste. Genevieve (22-9-2) entered the district final on a scorching eight-match win streak that included a pair of emphatic straight-set triumphs over the Lady Trojans with conference plaques at stake. But the Dragons struggled to equal their usual passing standard, and the amount of attacking chances for left-side threats .
