Pune: Evening rains have lashed the city over the last few days with potholes reappearing to haunt residents of the NIBM area — including the NIBM Annexe Road, Wanowrie and Salunke Vihar Road. Recently, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) claimed that around 3,000 potholes had been filled across the city. However, citizens countered the statement and said they had not noticed any change in the condition of roads .

Rishi Sharma, a resident of Rose Parade Housing Society off Salunke Vihar Road, told TOI that potholes appeared months ago and nothing was done. “I haven’t ever seen PMC staffers fixing potholes. Now, with the rains, one can only pray that accident don’t happen.

Also, covers of stormwater drains are uneven and could lead to major mishaps,” he said. Dattatraya Patke, who lives along the Bapusaheb Kedari Marg, said, “Why does PMC lie? We haven’t seen anyone filling potholes and the road’s condition has only deteriorated. The entire stretch till the Kedari petrol pump is filled with potholes and our lives are at risk.

” Last week, PMC’s road department head Aniruddha Pawaskar told TOI via WhatsApp that many potholes had been fixed. “As many as 2,742 potholes have been filled and 387 patches created to level roads. Smaller roads are being tended to.

We can’t say for certain how many more potholes there are. We will fix them as they appear,” he said. At NIBM Annexe Road, it is a bumpy ride on the SM Ghule Patil Road till the Raheja Circle.
