Post Office campaigner Sir Alan Bates has just said 'I do' to his long-term partner on the luxurious Necker Island, owned by none other than Sir Richard Branson. The 70 year old celebrated his nuptials with Suzanne Sercombe on the idyllic Caribbean island last month, as reported by the Sunday Times. The couple, who have been an item for 34 years, chose this moment to exchange vows, despite never having married before.

Sir Alan became a household name following an ITV drama that showcased his role in leading a fight for justice for sub-postmasters who were falsely accused of theft. According to The Times, the wedding came as a delightful shock to the new Lady Bates, 69, who donned a casual sun dress she had brought for what she thought was a holiday. "It just seemed a good idea being on Necker and it being a wonderful place," Sir Alan shared with the publication.
