Visitors can still access a historic Bolton hall as resurfacing works continues. Smithills Hal l encouraged people to continue visit as the road it is on is resurfaced. Diversions are in place to direct motorists but this week Smithills Museum Hall put up a post letting people know it can still be accessed.

A post by the tearoom Bake & Roast stated: "Business as usual -10am till 4pm. "Access to us and Smithills Hall Museum is best via the bottom of Smithills Dean Road or Smithills Croft Road. It looks closed but you can get access.

" Roger Hayes, councillor for Smithills said he hoped the resurfacing work would soon be completed. He said: "I am quite aware of the issues on Smithills Dean Road as I live nearby. "Smithills Croft Road is a very difficult road to put up diversions on.

"Other works began around two weeks ago on Smithills Dean Road and his has finished, the resurfacing work began on August 5 and is almost done, but it is not yet finished near Smithills Hall. "I don't think they told the museum about it but so that is a learning point. "I am confident the issues will soon be over.

"Some customers were able to get to the museum so I don't think they missed out on as much business as they feared."
