People across the county can expect to see a significant increase in policing over the next few days. Sussex Police said they are bringing in "significant additional and specialist resources" in locations across Sussex after rumours of planned protests. These are expected to take place in Brighton and Hastings on Wednesday evening.

This comes after a week of unrest in towns and cities across the UK following the Southport stabbings. Police officers were injured during “sustained violence” in Plymouth on Monday, while the streets of Darlington also saw officers pelted with bricks by rioters.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "People have the right to go about their daily business in safety and we are fully prepared to use all of our powers against anyone who threatens this. "The public can expect to see an increased police presence in some areas over the coming days, and we are actively engaging with our communities to provide reassurance and a clear point of contact. "We will continue to closely monitor all available information, alongside our local and national partners, to identify and address any emerging concerns and take action where required.
