Pune: The anti-narcotics cell of the city police has arrested three men on the charge of possessing mephedrone worth Rs94.3 lakh among other articles collectively worth Rs1.8 crore from near Adarsh colony at Tingrenagar in Vishrantwadi on Friday.

The suspects have been identifed as Srinivas Godaze (21) and Rohit Bende (22), who are second-year BBA students, and Nimesh Abnave, who holds a degree in mechanical engineering. On Saturday, the police produced the trio before a magisterial court, which ordered their custodial remand till Aug 16. Senior inspector Ulhas Kadam and his team were on foot patrol between Sawant petrol station and 509 Chowk in Tingrenagar, when they saw Godaze and Bende waiting around a bike suspiciously allegedly for the arrival of a prospective customer.

On spotting the policemen, the duo tried to escape and were overpowered. Police frisked them and recovered mephedrone (MD) worth Rs1.9 lakh.

During questioning, the duo revealed the involvement of main suspect Abnave, who was arrested from Tingrenagar. His car was searched and MD in a huge quantity was recovered . The total value of the narcotics and other articles —including the car, bike, four cell phones and two weighing machines — was pegged at Rs1.
