Pune: A total of Rs 11,500 crore has been pending in years of tax dues that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will have to recover from defaulters . If numbers were to be believed, the pending amount is worth nearly 10 years of PMC revenue. Annually, the civic administration collects approximately Rs 1,200 crore to Rs 1,500 crore revenue in property tax.

The major dues include nearly Rs 3,000 crore from mobile towers, Rs 100 crore from offices—private and govt. Recently, the PMC carried out a review of the property tax and dues. As per the civic data, around Rs 2,000 crore was stuck in double taxation disputes.

The owners of these properties that have been stuck in double taxation claim the tax was charged twice on the same property. The legal issues between PMC and owners have made it tough for the civic administration to recover the tax worth around Rs 600 crore. As per the PMC officials, they have taken a number of steps to recover the tax including drives where the civic body played music bands in front of defaulters' properties.

It, however, yielded good results.
