Pune: In a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Pune Municipal Corporation ( PMC ), has offered organic fertiliser to devotees donating the idols during the immersion. This move is aimed at promoting an eco-friendly Ganesh festival . According to civic officials, the initiative has received a good response from the devotees.

As per PMC data, around 1.76 lakh idols were donated to the civic body out of nearly 5.59 lakh idols which were immersed during Ganeshotsav.

The highest number of idols were donated on Tuesday alone, with 1.22 lakh idols. "The PMC had urged devotees to donate their idols.

They will be sent back to the artists for recycling and reuse," said Sandip Kadam, head of PMC's solid waste management department. The civic officials said that the administration has made arrangements for collecting the waste of flower offerings. The PMC has collected nearly 7.
