Six Denton-area high school football teams will put their seasons on the line once again this week with Round 2 playoff games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Krum and Pilot Point kick things off Thursday night against opponents from East Texas.
Guyer and Aubrey then battle fellow Dallas-Fort Worth area foes close to home on Friday, and Argyle heads out to Mineral Wells for its clash with Wichita Falls Memorial. Ryan gets the longest trip of the bunch, however, when it heads to Abilene on Saturday for a showdown with Lubbock Monterey. We break down some key storylines to watch in all six local contests.
The Wildcats started their playoff run in style with a dominant 52-30 win over McKinney that was not as close as the final score indicated as the Lions tightened the margin in garbage time. Guyer (8-3) now aims to continue that dominant start against a formidable team from Richardson Pearce (9-2). The Mustangs finished second in the competitive District 7-6A and suffered their lone district loss in narrow 55-49 fashion against Dallas Lake Highlands (9-2).
Pearce has shown a propensity for putting up points in bunches this fall with an average of 45.7 points per game as quite a few of its wins came in high-scoring fashion. Finding a way to slow down that prolific offense will be crucia.
