Pillion rider dies as truck hits bike from rear

1 2 3 Pune: A motorcycle pillion rider, Kashinath Gavandi (24) of Hinjewadi, died after a dumper truck hit the two-wheeler from the rear at Dr Ambedkar Chowk on Bhau Patil Road around 6.45pm on Tuesday. The bike rider, Shivanand Ganmukhi (24) of Bibvewadi, suffered injuries in the accident.

The duo were heading towards Solapur to attend a wedding ceremony through the old Pune-Mumbai highway from Aundh. Senior inspector Satish Jagdale of Khadki police told TOI, "Gavandi worked as a salesperson at his uncle's aquarium shop in Hinjewadi. Ganmukhi works with a private company.

" "The two were headed to their native place to attend a wedding ceremony. The dumper truck was travelling in the same direction. It hit the motorcycle from the rear and sped away.

Due to the impact, the rider was flung into the air and landed across the road," Jagdale said. "We have obtained CCTV footage of the spot to ascertain the registration number plate of the truck," he added..
