Kilkenny LGFA were delighted to mark the 50th Anniversary of the LGFA in a celebratory event on Sunday, July 28 in UPMC Nowlan Park. Kilkenny welcomed 12 u-10 teams from 11 clubs around the county to join in and they enjoyed the full Nowlan Park experience. All u-10 teams were delighted to parade around Nowlan Park to the claps and cheers of their families and enter the field via the tunnel to play their exhibition matches.

It was lovely to see the numbers of girls and their families enjoying a morning of ladies’ football in the Kilkenny stadium. The day also honoured Kilkenny LGFA’s team from 2007 who were crowned Junior All Ireland Champions when they defeated London in the final that year. That win almost two decades ago was achieved on a 3-5 to 2-5 scoreline and it was the Cats one and only All-Ireland Football title.

Goals from Sara McCarthy, Lydia Phelan and Orla McCormack sealed the win for Kilkenny on a day where they were captained by Caitriona Grace and managed by Paul Whelan. The team on the day was as follows: Noelle Curran (Railyard); Andrea Murphy (Railyard), Sara McCarthy (Carrickshock), Niamh Whelan (Thomastown); Leanne Fennelly (Mullinavat), April Purcell (Railyard), Caitriona Grace (Railyard); Breda Roche (Railyard), Angela Kenneally (Mullinavat), Noreen O’Keeffe (Railyard), Miriam O’Keeffe (Railyard); Lydia Phelan (Carrickshock), Kelly Anne Cottrell (Mullinavat), Marie Dargan (Railyard), Helen Murphy (Mullinavat).
