The 2024 editions of the popular Devizes Colour Rush and Confetti Battle events went ahead as planned on Saturday, September 14. Groups of runners, walkers, joggers, and wheelers all completed the colour rush in the town centre and were covered in paint as they reached the Market Place. This was followed by the confetti battle, which is a much-loved tradition dating back to 1913 when confetti and rose petals were thrown by the crowd during the old Devizes Carnival.
Devizes Confetti Battle (Image: Trevor Porter) This eventually evolved into the battle after it was founded by Jim Jennings around 1955 and now draws huge crowds of people to the town centre each year. Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts, which organises the events each year, thanked those involved in staging both activities. A spokesperson for DOCA said: “Thank you so much to all our runners, wheelers, walkers, volunteers, venues, contractors, and the beautiful townsfolk of Devizes for making today so special.
” Ahead of the event, DOCA also thanked Wessex Water engineers who were able to wrap up their work in the Market Place in time for the events to go ahead safely..
