Tuesday, August 13, 2024 Phuket is witnessing a surge in its tourism sector this August, with a noticeable boost in the number of visitors. According to the Airports of Thailand (AOT), the daily flight arrivals have soared to between 20 and 30, a significant rise from the previous year’s figures. This trend is anticipated to persist as the peak season approaches.

During his stay in Phuket, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin chaired a strategic session with key tourism and security stakeholders to gear up for the busy months ahead. The meeting saw participation from high-ranking officials, including the National Police, Region 8 Police, local Phuket authorities, the Navy, the Tourist and Marine police, Phuket Provincial Governor Sophon Suwannarat, and AOT representatives. AOT officials shared projections that during the peak season, the airport is expected to handle between 14,000 and 15,000 daily visitors, summing up to approximately 600,000 each month.

This represents a doubling of last year’s total, as per reports from Thai Newsroom. To enhance tourist safety, the Region 8 Police are implementing new safety measures and collaborating closely with consulates from nations that send large numbers of tourists, such as Russia, China, India, Australia, the UK, and Scandinavian countries. Their focus is on crime prevention and streamlining the travel process.
