Phillip Schofield is gearing up for a gruelling adventure as he's marooned on a desert island to confront his personal battles. The ex-This Morning host, who exited the ITV programme amid revelations of an affair with a younger male colleague, has revealed his return to television with Channel 5's Cast Away. In this survival challenge, he'll be isolated on an island close to Madagascar for 10 days without "no food or water".
Schofield isn't the first celebrity to take on such a daunting task. Comedian Ruby Wax was featured in the inaugural series of Cast Away, and Joanna Lumley has completed a similar endeavour in BBC's Girl Friday. For her part, Joanna was left to her own devices on Tsarabanjina island, where she famously fashioned footwear from her bra.
Similarly, Phillip will be left with nothing but the clothes he's wearing and "no camera crew" to document his ordeal. A promotional snapshot for the upcoming series shows a rugged-looking Phil seated on a pristine sandy beach, clad in a grey T-shirt and blue shorts, complete with trainers and a wide-brimmed hat for protection against the intense sun. Equipped with a microphone around his neck, he prepares a tarp for sleeping and appears to use a canvas bag as a makeshift pillow, reports the Express .
The celebrity shared: "Now you know how I spent my summer! Alone for 10 days, no food, no water, no crew. My story of survival, both on a desert island and off it." Viewers are left wondering what challenges Phillip will encoun.
