Philip Serrell has been on BBC's Bargain Hunt for many years, offering his advice on all things antiques to the red and blue teams. His health has sometimes been a topic of discussion and earlier this year he offered some reassuring news. The 70-year-old auctioneer recently underwent hip replacement surgery following concerns from viewers.

He was prompted to address his health directly after fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their worry. He penned: "For those who enquired after today’s @BBCBargainHunt - the answer is I now have a new hip and am turbo-charged!" One fan, Alan Davis, had written: "You looked in a bad way Phil, that's good news. Hope you feel fully restored soon!" This is not the first time he has had to address his health as back in October 2023 he shared: "Thank you to those that asked – nothing major but I am the proud owner of a new hip.

" One fan had expressed: "Really pleased to hear you’re OK, @PhilipSerrell. "I was worried when I saw you hobbling about on a stick (well, umbrella..

.) on BH recently. I’ve still got my hips, but have other replacement joints, & am grateful for all of them! Enjoy the new hip!” Philip began his career as a livestock trade auctioneer, but he switched paths to become a chartered surveyor in 1988 to analyse antiques.

He had in fact trained as a PE teacher straight out of school, but realising teaching was not for him, he tried his hand at Fine Art and antiques. The expert lives in Worcester with his wife Brion.
