State pensioners concerned about the loss of the £300 Winter Fuel Payment have received an update regarding the potential axing of free bus passes under the new Labour government. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has recently made changes to the eligibility for the £300 Winter Fuel Allowance from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Amid rumours that free bus passes might be the next benefit to face cuts, shadow transport secretary Helen Whately has reached out to Labour's transport secretary Louise Haigh.

However, a Labour spokesperson has assured that there are "no plans to withdraw" the free bus pass scheme. The spokesperson emphasised: "We know how vital the free bus pass scheme is for preventing loneliness, providing access to vital services and keeping people connected to loved ones, and that's why we have no plans to withdraw it." If scrapping their bus passes is not in your plans, then to allow this speculation to continue is immensely cruel." She urged reconsideration if the plan was to scrap the bus passes, stating: "If, however, it is, then I implore you to reconsider. The vast majority of pensioners are not living the life of luxury you appear to think they are.
