Chow’s comments came after attending the signing ceremony between MTT Hospitality, part of the MTT Group of Companies, and Pan Pacific Hotels Group, for the transformation of the Evergreen Laurel Hotel into Gurney Bay Hotel, a Parkroyal partner hotel. Datuk Seri Kenny Ong, Chairman of the MTT Group, and Choe Peng Sum, CEO of Pan Pacific Hotels Group, represented their respective companies at the signing. During the ceremony, Chow highlighted the vital role of the tourism industry as a key economic driver for Penang, contributing to job creation and economic growth.

He pointed out that Penang welcomed nearly seven million tourists in 2023, demonstrating the sector’s resilience and appeal. Chow added that the increasing number of direct international flights to Penang is expected to further boost this growth. Chow described the signing as a significant milestone for both the MTT Group and Pan Pacific Hotels Group, marking a new chapter in Penang’s dynamic hospitality scene.
